In 1999 a group of community members formed the Kennebec Valley Dental Coalition, a grassroots nonprofit organization, to address the need for better access to dental care for residents of central Maine. With the assistance of grants and community support, they opened the Waterville Community Dental Center in 2000.
The need for services rapidly outstripped the Center’s capacity, and in 2008 the Center expanded, adding three new operatories. This provided a total of seven treatment chairs and allowed hiring of a second dentist and a third hygienist.
The Waterville Community Dental Center offers a full range of dental services including hygiene, preventive care, restorative care, extractions and education to residents of the central Maine area and beyond. Most of them come from Somerset and northern Kennebec counties.
Since opening, the Center has cared for over 14,000 patients. 75% of our patients are MaineCare (Medicaid) recipients, 12% receive reduced dental fees through our income-based Sliding-fee Program and 13% are fully insured or private pay.
